As you might have noticed, i challenged myself to compose two tracks every month during the year 2015. I have now released a total of eight tracks and so far i haven’t felt that the challenge would’ve been too demanding for me. Actually it’s been quite easy to start working with something new right after you’ve completed the previous one!
The biggest change has probably been that i’ve streamlined my workflow in many ways. One great example would be mastering the final product before uploading it online. I now have a template project where i import the bounced project as a stereo file and have some “basic” settings which i have now found working quite well. Then the final mastering phase needs just a few tweaks (EQ, gain limiting etc..) here and there and the track is ready to be published.
In the old days i would’ve used the original project file with all the separate tracks while mastering my track and i could have used weeks for the mastering phase. It was a mess because i couldn’t resist the temptation of tweaking the track specific settings while mastering. However, now i clearly have two distinctively different phases in creating a track: 1) Composition and general mixing phase 2) Mastering phase.
My challenge can be followed in Soundcloud:
The second entry for my personal 2014 songwriting challenge. This one was finished quite quickly but i’m still very satisfied of the sounds and overall idea of the track. A little bit more smooth and ambient-like than my usual tracks.
Yeah, i’m going strong with my second entry of my personal songwriting challenge for 2015. The second one was born yesterday and i already have a 4 minute track with all the basic stuff included. Some fine tuning and then it’s ready to be released!
Somehow this track is a little bit different in style than my recent tracks. It begins with a nice and dark, smooth, intro where beats are weak, bassline is prominent and chords are simple until the song builds up to something more interesting.
Is my songwriting challenge supposed to feel this easy? Or is it just that i have a lot of ideas waiting at the moment and i will drain out my creativity before the end of the year?
The first track in my 2015 “two tracks a month” challenge: Strange Times.
After years of composing music without actually challenging myself in it, i finally decided to challenge myself into releasing at least two tracks a month during the year 2015!
At one point i was even thinking about taking part in Reddit’s one song a week, February Album Writing Month (FAWM) or the RPM music composing challenges but because i have a daytime job and other hobbies, i thought those challenges could be too demanding for me and eventually killing my creativity.
I make no promises on actually releasing two tracks a month but at least i’m trying to release, if not complete full length tracks, at least some ideas and interludes. Hopefully in the end of 2015 i have released 24 new tracks.
The tracks will be released in my Soundcloud account.
